Today we'll be looking at and discussing a film adaption of The Arabian Nights (2000; US; dir. Steve Barron). You're not assigned any real preparation for this class, but as you watch, you should think in terms of the ways in which the 21st century filmmakers have adapted a text whose stories may date back as much as two millenia. When you factor in the differences between the cultural perspective of the contemporary US and the medieval Islamic empires, you should have the beginning of an extremely useful comparison.
