Meeting Minutes: 3/7/13
March 7, 2013

Hey guys,

In case you missed the meeting here's some of what we talked about:
  • We will be showing The Last Mountain in the Student Center forum some Thursday in the weeks to come (stay tuned!)
  • We will start giving receipts for dues given from new members
  • We're looking for help with hosting a soldering workshop. We're looking at having a table set up in the Student Center to advertise and hold sign ups. If you're looking into helping out more (VOLUNTEER HOURS) stay tuned for an email asking for help to man the booth.

- Teresa Mayforth

Meeting Minutes: 2/27/13
February 27, 2013

Hey guys,

Here are a few notes from today's meeting:
  • We will be holding inductions for new members pretty soon. This will probably happen shortly after spring break.
  • After the induction, we will go to dinner and invite a TA and Professor that have played an important role in your education. Teresa recently emailed you about this.
  • We are working on creating a directory of alumni that we can contact, mostly for obtaining job information.
  • Tynan is working on getting funding to buy the Game of Life kit for the upcoming soldering workshop.

All for now. Have a great week.

- Andrew

Meeting Minutes: 2/7/13
February 7, 2013

Hey guys,

  • This is a reminder about the HKN induction info sessions on Tuesday 2/12 and Wednesday 2/20 at 4PM and 5PM respectively. Both are in Rowley Labs 142. Please try to attend at least one of these to share information with the incoming students.
  • We're still working on questions for the Engineer week scavenger hunt. We're trying to create a question that involves Software Engineering.
  • On Thursday 2/21 during Engineer Week, a few of us will give brief presentations to the students about our academic experiences as well as internship experiences. This will take place in the EE lab.
  • Take a look at these options that Tynan is considering for the soldering workshop so that you can provide your input.www.hobbyengineering.com/CatEKGAME.html. http://adafruit.com/products/89.
  • Teresa is in charge of booking the Student Center Forum to play The Last Mountain, most likely on Thursday, February 28.

- A. Klem

Meeting Minutes: 1/30/13
January 30, 2013

Hey all,

A few notes from this week's meeting:

  • We are going to start preparing for this semester's induction pretty soon. Tynan will set up two interest meetings for the inductees in the near future, and it would be nice to have some members come along to help share some HKN experiences. Look out for those meeting invites.
  • We won't be showing our movies during Engineer's Week, but hopefully soon after. We're looking for someone to volunteer to take control of that.
  • Tynan will send out a signup sheet so that we can sign up for our intern/coop presentations that we will present to the other members during each meeting.
  • We are still looking for ideas for the scavenger hunt. Preferably a problem involving power, systems and signals, or controls would be preferred as we pretty much have the other areas covered. The deadline for these is Sunday, so if you're interested in helping, please do so soon. For the presentation, we are planning on having demos that may include the electric snowmobile, Brad's stereo backpack, Lief's spot welder, and projects that we have done in previous classes.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

- AK

Meeting Minutes: 1/18/13
January 24, 2013

Hey guys,

Here are some notes from today's meeting, in case you weren't able to attend.

  • Meetings will probably be Thursdays from 4-5PM and Wednesdays from 5-6PM, alternating each week. Meeting invites to follow soon.
  • Brad has a website built, but it was designed using a program that can't be supported by the Clarkson server. When it is up and running, any member should be able to upload information to the site. We're hoping to have that ready pretty soon.
  • Alex needs help with Engineer's week. He needs your ideas on engineering problems to be used in the scavenger hunt. These should be fairly simple electrical engineering problems that a freshman would be able to solve. We also plan on having a short presentation where a few of us will talk about our specific concentrations. This is to teach students with undeclared majors how awesome it is to be an EE or a CompE or maybe even a SoftE. We're trying to get some demonstrations set up as well, so be sure to share your ideas with Alex! I'm sure he'll have more information at the next meeting, as he is still drawing up the overall process. This event will be happening on Thursday, 2/21.
  • Professor Ortmeyer informed us of the Tektronix competition. Tynan will send out link soon. You just have to fill out a few bits of information about yourself. This counts as a vote. Then you need to post this to Facebook or Twitter where your friends can do the same. The school that gets the most votes can win new equipment for their lab! Hopefully this will end all complaints about the quality of the equipment in the lab.
  • Each meeting, Tynan will pitch for a project that we can do until he finds something we can all agree on.
  • We will try to play the Last Mountain or Who Killed the Electric Car in student center forum during Engineering week in February.
  • We're considering a new kit for the soldering workshop as the current one seems like a lot of work for someone learning to solder. There are a few more ideas that are a bit cheaper and easier.
  • Tynan will send out a link so that we can sign up for intern/coop presentations as we're hoping to bring that back this semester. We will try to get some professors to present as well.

Check out the attached PowerPoint file for some links.
