Scholarships for AIAA Student Members

The AIAA national organization has several donors that put together scholarships for promising students majoring in Aeronautical Engineering. These scholarships range from $1000 to $5000 for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Here are some rules for applying to these scholarships:

  1. Applicant MUST be an AIAA member in good standing AND a full time student to apply.
  2. Applicant must have completed at least one (1) academic quarter or semester of full-time college work (Graduate students must have completed one term of Graduate level work).
  3. Applicant must have a college grade point average of not less than the equivalent of a 3.300 (B+) on a 4.000 scale.
  4. Applicant shall be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  5. Applicant's scholarship plan shall be such as to provide entry into some field of science or engineering encompassed by the technical activities of AIAA. (Technical Committee Descriptions)
  6. Applicant shall not have, or subsequently receive, any other scholarship/award which, when combined with the AIAA Foundation award, would provide a stipend greater than their tuition plus educational expenses (such as books, lab fees, room, board, etc.) estimated by the educational institution he/she plans to attend.
  7. Applicants may be students of any nationality, not restricted by the U.S. State Department, in full-time study at any accredited college or university within the United States. (Applicants for the Orville and Wilbur Wright Graduate Awards and the Guidance, Navigation, and Control Graduate Award are not restricted to US schools).
  8. Applicants must supply three references, all official transcripts of all college level work (including the most recent Fall Term), and complete a 500 - 1000 word Career Goal essay.
  9. Grad Students ONLY: You MUST submit a Research Outline of your approved research topic. The file must be in PDF format and may not exceed 20 pages with Times New Roman 10 pt font.
  10. Postdoctoral students cannot apply for awards.
