\usepackage{color} conflicts in LaTeX

Tools and equipment:
Installed MikTex2.7 on two PCs (Vista Home and XP Pro)

Issue
Conflict of \usepackage{color} and \usepackage{graphicx}

History
Writing my thesis I hit a moment when \usepackage{color} to be added as a neighbour to the \usepackage{graphicx}. Surprisingly, compiling failed with the following error: "\begin{document} ended with \end{figure}". GOOOOOGLing this issue almost failed due to absence of info, however, it appears that \usepackage{harvard} and few more others also conflict with {color}!

Solution
Well, if you want to do something do it yourself. Stareing at color.sty file one can see in lines 154–156
\def\color@hbox{\hbox\bgroup\color@begingroup}
\def\color@vbox{\vbox\bgroup\color@begingroup}
\def\color@endbox{\color@endgroup\egroup}

By some mystical nature last line closes ALL boxes even document in main file.

Answer
Merely comment those lines and no errors so far.
