The Clarkson University Ducted Turbine
The Clarkson University Ducted Turbine
The Ducted Wind Turbine (DWT) was Clarkson University's 2017 Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) Sustainability Fund project for Clarkson University. This project was chosen through a campus-wide vote with overwhelming support of both students and faculty. A real-time video feed of the unit can be seen here
The design was created by Clarkson University’s Dr. Kenneth Visser in conjunction with his company Ducted Wind Turbines. His intention is to decrease the cost of energy to half that of conventional small turbine designs. This prototype will reside on the roof of the TAC building. In addition to producing green electricity for campus, the system will archive data for use in both research and educational purposes. The team working on the project is very diverse including Clarkson faculty, staff, alumni and students from various disciplines and backgrounds. A brief overview of the ducted wind turbine concept and Dr. Visser’s plan are presented in a video that can be seen here.
