Our team will address an area of Network Management, namely, that of DNS and DHCP in a large-scale enterprise environment. This aspect was chosen due to the relatively limited choices a company has when trying to choose and roll out a DNS/DHCP solution that has low management overhead, as well as a large, useful feature set. The goal of this project is to create an open-source alternative to an existing proprietary solution for DNS and DHCP provisioning. We intend to functionally link existing open-source DNS and DHCP products by implementing a dynamic DNS relationship. In addition, we will create a PHP-based web administration tool which will reference a common database shared with server-side scripts that handle the task of recreating configurations for the DNS and DHCP servers. Our solution would be used by network and systems administrators looking to manage IP and DNS space on their networks, whether they are small or large in scale. Since it is web-based, not only is it platform-independent, but it is accessable from any workstation with web access. It should also be able to integrate with a network registration system to aid administrators in referencing user information based on previously collected data.
