Lion Gate

The famous Lion Gate at Mycenae. Other artifacts from Mycenae also include depictions of lions. There are no other Greek Late Bronze Age sites which have yielded artifacts of such workmanship; representations of magnificent animals such as the lion and the bull surely reinforced the power at the command of the city and its magnates.

A closer view of the lions; some specialists believe they may represent griffins instead of lions.
