Erechtheion
Built in the 5th c. on the Mycenaean site on the Acropolis, near the
sacred olive tree. Erechtheus = Poseidon. The stone
columns in the form of women are called caryatids. The contest between
Athena and Poseidon for the control of Attica supposedly took place on
this spot.
