Progress Report

Feb 6 2005

Here's some of the things that I have done over the past two weeks for COSI.

Here's the mailing list questions answered for the Open AFS development list.

  1. There are usually between 5 and 10 messages on the list per day.

  2. There were several different people posting.

  3. The two major topics were kernel panics on ppc_linux_26 and an 8-way itanium 2 server that runs Suse Enterprise Linux.

  4. The topic that interested me most were the patches for using OpenAfs on the s390x architecture.

  5. The list is archived at https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-devel/

  6. You can join the list at https://lists.openafs.org/mailman/listinfo/openafs-devel

  7. The average Linux/Unix user probably wouldn't be able to understand the topics on this list, they are generally about the stability of the development version of OpenAFS

  8. Developers or experienced who are interested in OpenAFS development and don't mind seeing a lot of kernel panics from different Unix Operating Systems.

  9. New users post occasionally on the list.

  10. New users are generally treated quite well on the list especially because there is a recurring theme of problems on the list (It's generally a configuration issue that causes a kernel panic/core dump).
