Anti-Spyware Talk
Rouslan organized a date and time for the talk -- it will be happening the last Monday of February in Snell (I'll post the specific time and place ASAP). Justin updated his tutorial, so I'll definitely try to incorporate his changes. I think I've narrowed the list of software to the following: Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird (calendaring, it just came out), and Gaim.
Firefox and Thunderbird provide protection against IE/Outlook exploits, while Gaim and Sunbird are really just open source alternatives to other applications. On top of demonstrating those applications I'll be showing how to use AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy.
Seven Habits Seminar
Kyle reminded me about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective people seminar that I wanted to run last semester but didn't get around to. I now have a copy of the book and will look for interested people at the meeting tonight. In general I want to run it the same way that Bryan ran the "How to be a Star at Work" discussion sessions -- informal discussion of the reading. I believe there are just enough weeks left in the semester for this to work well.
Mailing Lists: GNOME Usability
There was an interesting point made on the GNOME Usability list about how most computer science majors think in terms of three numbers: 0, 1 and n. The point was brought up in talking about making a particular GNOME menu scalable -- it was definitely eye opening for someone to say "wait, it doesn't matter how scalable the application is, but how usable. Havoc Pennington listed a link to the page that discusses this further, which can be found here.
