Design strategy

Flow Diagrams (Block diagrams, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams)

On-line sources available through Clarkson.  Most are searchable.

·         Clarkson catalog

·         Clarkson interlibrary loan

·         Engineering Village Ei link (The best search engine for technical papers, patents, websites, other data bases.)

·         Clarkson journals and magazines on line (does not include those available as hard copies in the library)

·         Clarkson's Complete Journal List (includes many more -- the most comprehensive list)

·         Clarkson library searchable databases;  Login from off campus

·         Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (CRC)

·         Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology (after searching, click on Section Text in HTML).  Hard copy also available in the library (Ref 660.3 E56e3).

·         Knovel handbooks and books  (Also available through the AIChE.)  Excellent on-line source of all sorts of information.  A few examples:

·         CRC Press Engineering Electronic Library

·         Search at the above site for “Albright’s Chemical Engineering Handbook” for a competitor to Perry’s handbook.

·         Wilson Web search engine

·         Chemical Week (Search to find articles about particular chemicals, such as manufacturers, production rates, prices)

·         Chemistry and Industry (Click on one issue, and then Find to search for news about particular chemicals from many sources).

·         ICIS Chemical Business (formerly Chemical Market Reporter); Click on one issue, and then Find to search for news about particular chemicals from many sources)

·         Hydrocarbon Processing (mostly news items, but also process engineering advice, marketing information and costs; figures not provided in online version)

·         Oil & Gas Journal (search for news about oil refining, petrochemical and biofuel manufacturing, including plant costs and chemical prices)

·         Chemical Engineering (get ID & PW from instructor; news, design methods, process engineering, cost indices); Previous issues (without equations or figures); TP1.C3

·         Chemical Engineering Progress (also available online via the AIChE; latest issue in the library at TP155.A55)

·         Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Process Design and Development

·         Industrial & Engineering Research

·         Encyclopedic Dictionary of Named Processes in Chemical Technology

Other on-line sources

·         Chemical Processing

·         MIT Open Courseware

·         ICIS Chemical Business (formerly Chemical Market Reporter); Student site (many useful links, including prices of many chemicals about one year ago)

·         Directory of on-line resources & papers for chemical engineers

·         Patent information

·         US Patent and Tradmark Office (find patent by topic, number, inventor, company, etc.)

·         Department of Energy (reports, data, software, etc.)

·         On-line engineering calculators Reynolds number, pipe friction, unit conversion, beams (strength of materials), flowmeters, radiation, etc.
