Introduction to Engineering Use of the Computer
ES 100: Sections 4,5,12,24,25,26
Instructor: William R. Wilcox
CLARKSON UNIVERSITY
Spring 2007
Students have been assigned in roughly equal numbers by SAS to 12 lecture/computer lab sections and to 12 experimental laboratory sections. The instructors for these sections are as follows:
·
Professor James J.
Carroll: Sections 9, 10, 11, 21,
22. 23
·
Professor John P.
Dempsey: Sections 3, 27
·
Professor Jubum Kim: Sections
1,2,29,31
· Professor Daniel Valentine: Sections 6,7,8,28,30,32
· Professor William R. Wilcox: Sections 4,5,12,24,25,26
Professor Dempsey is
in charge of the course.
Each lecture/computer lab section meets twice each week and the experimental lab sections will meet a few times (to be announced) during the semester. Note that most students will have different instructors for the lecture/computer lab and the experimental lab. Blackboard will be used for course information, quizzes, grades, etc. Although each instructor will cover the same material and make the same assignments, each student is required to attend his/her assigned sections. The text is "MATLAB for Engineers," Pearson Prentice Hall, by Holly Moore ISBN 0-13-187244-3.
Since MATLAB will be used in many subsequent engineering courses, each student is required to have MATLAB 7 installed on his/her own computer. The student version can be obtained for approximately $100 at sites such as http://www.campusestore.com/. The University bookstore will have a few copies available at about the same price, and can order more with delivery in a few days.
Useful supplementary materials:

Tutorial on symbolic
methods for calculus, graphing, and solution of equations
·
Tutorials on
analysis and plotting of data
·
Tutorial on
numerical solution of equations
Remember to bring your text and
your Clarkson Novell (AD) ID & password to each class, including the first
one. The new Academic Suite Blackboard
uses the same ID & PW, not your previous Blackboard ID & PW.
