Textbook:  Beer, Johnston and DeWolf, Mechanics of Materials, 4th edition, McGraw Hill, ISBN 0-07-298090-7.

Program Outcomes:

Students will be able to determine the stress, strain and deformation of basic mechanical and structural components, given the applied loads and component geometry. 

Students will be able to perform fundamental component design and design refinement by applying the proper failure concepts along with stress, strain and deformation analysis.

Assessment Methods:

Time limited in-class examinations.

Graded student homework and workshop problems.

Exams Dates and Information:

Exam I:  Wednesday September 19  

Exam II:  Wednesday October 17       

Exam III:  Wednesday November 14 

Final Exam:  Week of December 10-14                                                         

Exam I,II and III are designed to be one hour exams, but you are allowed up to two hours for each exam.

All exams are closed book, closed notes, however a formula sheet will be provided for each exam. You are not allowed to bring your own formula sheets. You are not allowed to bring or use a calculator (problem will not require use of a calculator).
