VRLab History

In the beginning, the Virtual Reality Project was an idea brought up by the Clarkson chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery for a research project in the fall of 1993. The administration at Clarkson University approved funding for a single computer to run the programs and files needed for such a task. Since then the VR project has upgraded to two machines being used on a regular basis currently. The project has also received the donation of two VFX1 helmets and puck controls from Paul Travers, an alumni of Clarkson who started his own business in VR headgear. Students have worked in the past with rewriting VR code for a world controlled by a Nintendo Power Glove, designed VRML (Virtual Reality Mark-Up Language) worlds to view over a common web browser, and currently are in the process of making a virtual "pong" style game that may be network playable. The computers and other equipment are being constantly checked and upgraded to keep up with any new breakthroughs in the field of VR. The class has had a consistantly good enrollment, and will probably expand even further as time progresses/
