Current Controlled Voltage Source (CCVS)

Here is a circuit that contains a Current Controlled Voltage Source (CCVS). The gain of the CCVS can be changed using the scrollbar.

When the gain of the CCVS is equal to 4 V/A this is the circuit considered in problem P2.7-1 of Introduction to Electric Circuits, 7e by R.C. Dorf and J.A. Svoboda. In problem P2.7-1 the gain of the CCVS is denoted by the symbol r. Then

where r is the gain of the dependent source. Notice that the units of r are V/A. The current I_a, in Amps, and voltage V_b, in Volts, are measured using the ammeter and voltmeter. Thus the gain of the dependent source can be determined from the meter readings.

Challenges:

1. Set the gain of the CCVS equal to 4 V/A to check the answer to problem P2.7-1.

2. Set the gain of the CCVS equal to 8 V/A. Verify that the meter readings are consistent with the gain of the dependent source.

3. Determine the gain of the CCVS required to cause I_a = 8 A. Verify that the meter readings are consistent with the gain of the dependent source.
