The International Center

for Gravity Materials Science and Applications

Welcome to the home page for the International Center for Gravity Materials Science and Applications (ICGMSA). The Center is located at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, USA. It was founded in 1991 by its current director, Dr. Liya L. Regel.

The primary mission of ICGMSA is to conduct research on the influences of gravity on materials processing. This is done via computer modeling and experiments performed in space and on centrifuges. Our goal is to understand the influence of gravity in order to develop new and improved manufacturing methods.

The secondary mission of the Center is to foster international collaboration on gravity materials science. Thus far this has been done by organization of workshops, four of which have been held since the founding of the Center:

Chinese Academy of Science and Clarkson University Dialog on Fluid Physics and Materials Science (2001)

Evening course on crystal growth  (2002)

CRDF grant with scientists in Russia (2002 - 2004)
