Eggcorns

Metafilter has an interesting entry on "eggcorns" misused words/phrases (such as "all intensive purposes" instead of the phrase "all intents and purposes), with lots of links to research on the topic. (The name "eggcorn" comes from the relatively commone use of that word for "acorn".)

Great site.

Sounds like Jon Carroll "Mondegreens" (misheard lyrics): http://www.sfgate.com/columnists/carroll/mondegreens.shtml

... we must now, in the words of the old Christmas carol, "sleep in heavenly peas."
