 Homework: (click here)

Doing the homework and understanding the solution in detail are the most important preparations that you can have for the tests and understanding the material. Homework will be assigned weekly in the lectures (on Thursdays), and collected on the following Thursday in the beginning of class. Solutions of the homework assignments will be provided on the due Thursday after the class. So, no late homework assignments will be accepted.

 Exams and grades:

There will be two hourly exams, conducted during regular classes. Exact exam dates will be announced later. There will be also the final exam. In all the exams, the students are allowed to use the textbook (but no other reference materials), their own handwritten notes, and a calculator.

The final exam will consist of three parts, each covering material approximately corresponding to two hourly exams, and a new third part that was not covered by the hourly exams. The higher of the hourly exam grade and the appropriate part of the final exam will be used in the final average calculation.

PH457 only: the course grade will be calculated as follows: hourly exams 25% each, homework 25%, and final exam 25%.

PH557 only: a project is required. The course grade will be calculated as follows: hourly exams 25% each, homework 15%, final exam 25%, and project 10%.

Granting A or B with no final exam: if your grades before the final exam are B or higher, you will be granting grade B or higher with no final exam. Of course, if you have B and want to improve it by taking the final exam, you are welcomed to do so.
