Research/Projects:

Innovative Bridge Research and Design Methods

  • This research involved incorporating innovative materials into the design of bridge superstructures for

improved performance and increased service life

  • Completed the design of a bridge superstructure which integrated Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer

(CFRP) rebar in a reinforced concrete bridge deck.  This bridge is located in White Creek NY on County

Road 68 scheduled for construction in Summer 2007.

  • Proposed a performance monitoring system using Fiber Optic Sensor (FOS) technology to track the long term

performance of the bridge while validating design methodologies.

Performance Monitoring and Condition Assessment of Bridges using Sensor Technology

  • Develop methodology to improve condition assessment of bridges using sensor technology
  • Incorporate information from sensor technology into current Bridge Management System (BMS) protocols
  • Load Rating of bridges using a Wireless Sensor System developed in the Laboratory for

Intelligent Infrastructure and Transportation Technologies (LIITT) at Clarkson University

(Wireless System developed by Matthew Whelan, Michael Fuchs, Dr. Kerop Janoyan)
