As mentioned elsewhere, Gnomes are still being regularly enslaved in gardens, with many common stores, such as Kmart and Walmart, trading these innocent lives for money. However, Gnomes are now facing many more threats in today's society. As can be seen in the pictures at the bottom of this page, many people are obsessed with Gnomes. You have all heard about the old lady down the street with dozens of cats. There are people out there who will collect dozens of Gnomes, forcing them to live under overcrowded, inhumane conditions. The pictures also show that some psychologically unstable people actual think they ARE Gnomes, dressing up and acting like them. These people become extremely dangerous, because when they see a Gnome they attempt to steal them and force them to do certain acts without their consent.

One of the most disturbing threat is that caused by science. Innocent Gnomes are being captured or bought, and used in inhumane scientific experiments. They are subjected to cruelties not fit for any form of life. Most if this is caused by bans placed on human research, such as stem cell research. Gnomes have a very similar physiology to humans, and are not only cheaper than using monkeys or other lab animals, but are also considered more expendable, and no current laws place restrictions on Gnome research. This makes Gnomes very appealing to researchers. Some of these “experiments” involve the extraction of their bone marrow, for bone marrow stem cell research, resulting in a slow and painful death.

Atrocities such as these must come to an end. It is absurd to restrict research on other animals, yet not extend such protection to another form of intelligent life. It is also wrong that the afore mentioned behavior, such as collecting vast numbers of Gnomes and forcing them to live in horrid conditions, still persists. The Gnomes are just as smart as humans, if not more so, and deserve to be treated as equals. In steps the GPA.
