Science, Technology, and Society in the Renaissance
Paper 1
|
- Due: Thursday, 9 February
2006 -- in class
- Length: 2 pages doublespaced,
plus cover sheet
Topic:
1. Describe the ways in which the careers and works of Renaissance
artist-engineers/architects/mathematicians such as Brunelleschi illustrate the
movement away from attitudes and practices of the middle ages and toward the
development of humanism, urbanism, expanded trade and commerce, and political
changes -- all of which are described in the first 3 chapters of Europe
in a Wider World. Use precise illustrations and be specific.
Specifications:
- The paper should be 2 pages doublespaced, plus a separate cover sheet
- Type your paper
- Give your paper a title
- Staple your pages together if you want me to grade your paper
- Use specific examples from the texts we have read
- If you use illustrations, put them at the end of your paper and label them,
such as: fig. 1, fig. 2, etc. These will be extra pages, not the 2 required.
- I will not accept late papers
- Since this is a formal essay, your writing must follow the rules of spelling,
capitalization, punctuation, and grammar. The first three are mechanical and
can be checked easily with your word-processor or by careful editing. Do your
best to have your essay be grammatically correct; if you have problems or
questions, see me.
- Avoid plagiarism by acknowledging sources of ideas that do not originate
with you, including the ideas of another student.
- Upload your paper to turnitin.com before

I will not read or grade any papers
that have not been uploaded to turnitin.com
before class on Thursday, 9 February 2006
