  1. Choose one important artwork we have looked at this summer.
  2. Briefly describe the myth or saga to which it relates
  3. Discuss the visual representation
    1. what type of representation
      1. i.e., painting, sculpture, private, monumental
      2. date of the representation
      3. author -- if known
    2. disucss all recognizable details and figures
    3. whether it illustrates a specific element/episode
    4. whether it adds a significant element
    5. whether it differs from the written version
  4. Finally, discuss at length what it tells us about the meaning or value of the myth for the time period in which the visual representation appears
    1. E.g., if it illustrates a scene from Homer, but appears in the 5th century, what does it choose to emphasize that might be different from Homer's emphasis
    2. E.g., if it is a monumental sculpture illustrating a labor of Herakles, what does it emphasize that might be significant in the time it appears?
