Here we list the answers to some frequently asked questions about our sisterhood. Have a question that you don't see answered here? Visit our "Contact Us" page for information about where to direct additional questsions and help us expand this page! What is Rush? Rush is the time (usually the first two weeks of each semester) when girls are checking our one or more sororities to see which is the best fit for them and whether or not they are interested in Greek Life. It's called rush because you meet so many people in such a short amount of time. It's alot of fun and while it can be a bit intimidating, just be yourself, we've all been through it and love meeting new girls. Rushing doesn't mean you have to join, it's just a chance get some information, meet some new people, and decide if it might be right for you. What is a bid? A bid is an offer extended by a Greek organization to become a member of that organization. In our case, an offer to become a part of our sisterhood. What is COB? COB stands for Continuous Open Bidding. This is a process in place at many Universities across the country and began at Clarkson for the sororities (but not fraternities) in the Fall of 2005. What it essentially means is that sororities have the ability to extend a bid to any eligible woman following the end of rush. "Bid Day" is still in place, the day at the end of Rush when all the Greeks hand out their bids, and only girls having received a bid on that day or previous to it may begin the New Member Period for that semester. COB's can be handed out throughout the rest of the semester and girls who accept are eligible to begin the next New Member Period. Who is eligible to receive a bid or COB? Women who are students of Clarkson University, have completed the first semester of their freshman year, and have a cumulative GPA above a 2.5 are eligible for membership. However, if you do not meet these requirements, we still encourage you to attend a rush party if you are interested in joining while you are working to meet these requirements. What is the New Member Period? The New Member Period (formerly known as Pledging) is a time for girls who have accepted a bid (New Members) to learn about our sorority and the sisters in it, and also a time for us to elarn even more about you! How many people can live in the house? The house can hold a maximum of 19 people and we are required by National to house at least 16 people each semester. Do you have to live in the house? The house must be filled to capacity (16) each semester and sisters and so yes, you are required to live there, however, living in the house is a once in a lifetime opportunity that is not only lots of fun, but it saves you money, gets you off campus, and allows you to feel more connected to the hosue as a whole. The exceptions to living in the house are for RA's and medical reasons. How much are dues? Dues are $212/semester if you don't live in the house and $192/semester if you don't. There are additional, one-time fees when you first become a sister to cover the cost of your badge, etc. How much does it cost to live in the house, how does it compare to the cost to live on campus, and are meals included? It costs $6100 to live in the house for the entire year, and this includes food and meals (we have a cook). The cost for housing and a meal plan combined on campus is $9648, so living in the house saves you $3548 a year! |
