Akwesasne Reservation Trip

We took a field trip to the Akwesasne Reservation to learn about how the St. Regis Mohawk tribe Environment Division maintains the environment and keeps its members healthy.

This is a former EPA Superfund site. See that lovely green hill in the background? That's General Motors' unlined landfill, which leached PCBs and other toxins into this former swimming hole, now known as Contamination Cove.

We went to the visitors' center of the Robert Moses Dam, where we watched a movie about its creation and learned about energy sources that are cleaner than fossil fuel combustion.

We couldn't go all the way to the reservation without stopping by the casino! It didn't hold our attention for long, so Briita, Meagan, and I enjoyed the nice weather while we waited outside for the boys.
