REU China 2001 - Qingdao

Qingdao is a coastal city
located on the southeastern side of Shangdong Peninsular. Compare to most
cities in China, Qingdao is a very pretty city, it's considered a beach
resort town by many Chinese. It has a lot of trees, European style buildings,
and small hills dotted along the ocean. Being a "coastal open economy"
city, Qingdao is more modernized than most inland cities in China, but
do not expect it to be like a typical American city.
Ocean University of Qingdao has two campuses. The new campus is far away in the new-town area of Qingdao city, we do not know much else about it. The old campus, which was the one we stayed at in the summer of 2001, is located in the old-town area within walking distance to the ocean and the downtown Qingdao (Zhongshang Lu). It is in a good location for shopping, sightseeing, and just wondering around aimlessly. |
