Alumni, Attention! Drop and Give Me Twenty (Bucks)!

Every year, before the holidays, the Golden Knight Battalion promotes the "Drop and Give Me Twenty (Bucks)" program. This program is aimed at sending deployed GKB alumni care packages in time for the holidays.

These care packages include comfort items that give our deployed alumni a taste of home such as homemade, homegrown, and locally produced goodies, as well as pennants and mugs from their alma mater. It is our way of thanking our Soldiers for their committed service overseas.

The "Drop and Give Me Twenty (Bucks)" program is made possible from contributions from our own GKB alumni, and from friends of the ROTC battalion. Last year, our donors gave over $1,900, of which every penny was spent sending care packages overseas. This program truly exemplifies Soldiers supporting Soldiers - Golden Knights supporting Golden Knights

This year, we are once again challenging our friends and alumni to contribute to the program and donate a small contribution of twenty dollars (or whatever you would like to contribute). It is even more exciting when we get a note from our alumni, some of whom graduated in the early decades of the Golden Knight Battalion.

If you would like to donate to the 2010 "Drop and Give Me Twenty (Bucks)" program, you may send your donation (or note for our deployed alumni) to:

Clarkson Army ROTC
BOX 5875
Potsdam, NY 13699

Please make your checks payable to "Cadet Association"

We look forward to seeing our Golden Knight alumni step up and send their well wishes (and their twenty bucks!) for the 2010 "Drop and Give Me Twenty (Bucks)" program.

If you have any questions about the program, or would like more info about our deployed alumni, please contact Shirley Mousaw (email) or call 315-265-2180.

LDAC Update

It's 22 July and we are well on our way to one of the most successful Warrior Forge Summer's in recent memory. 19 GKB Cadets are on track to complete or have completed LDAC. All 19 have passed the APFT and land nav portions of the Course. An impressive land nav average of 92 out of 100 is a testament to the training on multiple land nav courses during the past year. Cadets McTarnaghan, Vantine, and Sortevik scored a 99, and Brewer, Lucas, and Wheeler had perfect scores. PT scores could have been better overall, but a 292 by Cadet Wheeler, and a 300+ by Cadet Fahsel were the top male and female scores for the GKB. Cadet Fahsel also had the top female score in her Regiment. 2 overall E's at camp so far, with 9 cadets still to receive overall evaluations. We are on track to have 19 fully qualified MS IV's ready to execute training this year, and prepare the next wave of GKB cadets for next year. They need to come back ready to work, because the MS III class is shaping up to be one of the largest and most diverse in recent memory. Well done to all!!! FROM THE FRONT

Summer Training

Summer training is in full swing for the Cadets of the Golden Knight Battalion. At this time we have two Cadets (Erin McTarnaghan and Jenna Portelli) who have completed Airborne training. Cadet David Pecka had already returned from a CULP trip to Africa (story and pictures to follow). Cadets Ables, Bierwirth, Lucas, Phillips, Schumacher, and Shineman are on the ground at LDAC, and cadet Dohnalek is headed to LTC. We will be tracking their progress this Summer and report their eventual graduation from the camps. If you want to follow the camps on the internet you can check out:

Game Over!!

The annual Army Vs Air Force game was a huge success (especially since the Army won). With a final score of 2-0, this was one of the tightest games in recent memory. Two goals by Phil Ables was all it took to seal the victory, and a solid shutout performance by Mike Fensterer ensured the boot would remain in the "RO" house for another year. The team was coached by Charles Rugg. Seniors playing in their last Army/AF game were Nick Miles, Brian Bierwirth, Kerry Mitchell, and Michael Crane. The date for the Basketball game will be announced soon, and Army will be looking for a sweep.

Keep those skates sharp, boys. It won't be long before summer will be over, and the Ice will be back down.
