Skiing

Although Clarkson University has a ski club separate from the Outing Club, we have our own take on the sport. If you want cushy lifts and in-bounds action, ski club has you covered. If the solitude and challenge of backcountry skiing beckons, the Outing Club is the place for you. The essence of the backcountry is hiking what you ski. If you no longer feel a sense of accomplishment from skiing at a resort, backcountry is definitely for you. If the snow quality at "Ice Face" has you bummed, look no further than the great Adirondack backcountry. Summit a High Peak and ski down it, and you'll never go back in bounds. In the backcountry you will take your skiing to the next level as you explore the outdoors, yourself, and your trusted companions. This is truly the way to own the mountain!
We have a dedicated group of alpine, telemark and nordic skiers ready to tackle anything. Our club skis the slides and trails of the Adirondacks, Vermont's beautiful powder, and the gnarly pitch of Tuckerman's Ravine on Mount Washington. Our passion is the outdoors, and we think there is no better way to experience that winter wonderland than out in the woods with a few friends and a pair of skis.
Are you new to the sport? No problem, we can teach you to telemark, alpine or nordic (cross-country) ski and have a wide variety of skiing locales for even the most novice skier. Seven Springs, Clarkson's own small ski hill is a mere 15 minute drive from the campus and offers excellent skiing for beginners. In addition, Seven Springs is home to CUOC's annual Winterfest. At Winterfest we have a big air ski jump contest where you can show off your old-school tricks or new-school spins and flips.
Although most of our skiing is done near Clarkson, some of our members travel further afield in search of perfect powder. Last spring break trips were made to both the mountains of Idaho and the Chic Chocs in Quebec. Clarkson also has cross-country ski trails on campus that are groomed throughout the winter for great weekday, between-classes skiing. If you're ready to take on a new passion, or push an existing one to a new heights, look no further. The Clarkson Outing Club is committed to tearing up the backcountry, one run at a time. We hope you will join us in our quest to master the mountains we love!
