Kayaking
With the scenic Raquette River running right by campus, Clarkson has an ideal location for both Whitewater and Flatwater kayaking. If you're into Whitewater surfing and/or river running we frequent the Rt. 3 wave on the Black river in Watertown and Stone Valley. If Flatwater is more your thing, there are countless lakes and rivers within day-trip distance from campus, including the portion of the Raquette that runs by campus.
Never Kayaked before? No problem! We hold rolling sessions both in the Raquette River and in the pool, so you can learn to flip yourself back up, should you roll over. These rolling sessions are even open to non-members, this means you can bring along a friend who might be interested as well.
Since whitewater is dangerous, if you plan on coming with us on our trips, we do require that
you come to these sessions and learn to roll. Because of the inherent danger, we also require
that all trips have a kayaking chair (or someone we approve of) leading your trip. This may seem
like a bit of a damper, until you realize that you're basically riding a roller coaster that can
very easily take control of you and your boat.
So if you are interested in Kayaking come to one of our meetings or attend a rolling session.
Roll sessions are every Saturday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. They are always a lot of fun and we always welcome newcomers!
Hope to see you soon!
