Caving

CUOC Caving One of the more unique sports that the Outing Club has to offer is caving. During the fall months the brave members of the club spend a significant portion of their time underground. Schoharie county N.Y. becomes like a second home. CUOC provides instruction and equipment in vertical rope work, which comes in handy for a few caves.

Conservation is stressed very highly. Students are taught to follow the NSS motto, "Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints, Kill nothing but time". This is definitely NOT a sport for the squeamish. Students find out quickly, on the several beginner trips that go out in the fall, whether or not caving is for them. For the those who embrace the sport, it is an experience they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
