Canoeing

If you even think that there is the slightest possibility that you might want to go canoeing during your four years at Clarkson, come talk to us! The Outing Club has over a dozen canoes, including two solo canoes and a whitewater canoe. They come in all flavors, so whether you're a fiberglass aficionado, or an aluminum nut, CUOC has something to tickle your fancy. The Outing Club also have a half dozen plastic canoes, including two lightweight Daggers which were absolutely awesome on the Freshman Orientation trips last year.

Now, as to where you can go canoeing, well, the possibilities are endless. The North Country contains a wide variety of rivers and lakes, flatwater and whitewater. The Raquette River is just one of the possibilities, which just happens to flow by about 30 feet from the canoe house. If you feel like going a little further a field, say, within an hour or so, well that opens you up to roughly half of the Adirondack Park. So take your pick: Cranberry Lake, Tupper Lake, Long Lake, Saranac Lake, the Oswegatchie River, the Bog River, or the rest of the Raquette… they're all out there.

This begs question, what do I have to do to take out a canoe? The answer? Call one of the CUOC canoe chairs! (Or email, or IM.) We'll charge you a small rental fee (look down below) and then let you take out a canoe for whatever period of time we agree on. So come on down! Go canoeing, be safe, and above all, have fun!
