Basic Information

Applications are sought from undergraduates interested in spending their summer participating in mathematics research projects.

Pending support from the National Science Foundation.

Students will work in groups of 3-4 with a faculty advisor from SUNY Potsdam or Clarkson University. The program will tentatively run for eight weeks from June 5 - July 28, 2017. Participants will receive a stipend of at least $4,400.00 plus free housing in an on-campus apartment. Up to $375 is available for travel expenses to/from Potsdam.

Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Student must be full-time undergraduate students as of September 2017. Applicants should have completed the calculus sequence, linear algebra and at least one more upper-level undergraduate course.

The program will be conducted on the campus of SUNY College at Potsdam, with the resources of nearby Clarkson University also available. SUNY Potsdam is widely known for its undergraduate mathematics program, and Clarkson University has a strong commitment for scientific research.

To ensure full consideration, complete applications must be received by February 15, 2017.

Interested applicants should submit their application materials via MathPrograms.

We strongly encourage applications from minorities, women, people with disabilities, and students from schools with limited research opportunities.

Topics

Topics to be explored (along with suggested background courses) are listed below. We have also included some representative problems for each group. These problems are completely optional but we encourage applicants to submit their solutions (in PDF format) as a separate email to our REU gmail address.
